Myriam Fournier Kacimi, who was born in Algiers and grew up in France, is a former executive in investment banking. She has worked in Paris, New York, Munich and Tokyo.
She is particularly concerned by the problems of pollution and wanted to become fully involved in reducing greenhouse gases.
In Germany and Japan, in particular, she discovered the importance of renewable energies and the unsuspected advances these countries were making. So she decided to capitalise on her experiences and organise her conversion to the solar energy sector in Africa.
She founded SunGy, a developer of solar power plant projects and global solutions incorporating technical and financial engineering expertise.
SunGy has given priority to the Algerian market, where it has developed strategic partnerships and invested heavily in detailed knowledge of the market’s technical and regulatory specificities, institutional and economic players and legal and financial aspects. In 2016, it commissioned the first so-called smart power plant for an industry combining three energy sources, the first solar-powered bank branch in the desert in 2017 and innovative solutions for sub-Saharan agriculture.
An international lecturer, she is fully committed to the promotion of women for sustainable and equitable progress, contributing to a better world. She has received numerous awards and distinctions in several countries in recognition of her dual commitment and entrepreneurial success.
She was part of the delegation of young entrepreneurs at the 2020 G20 Summit, and will be selected again in 2021. She is a 2020 Gold Award winner in the WIA programme, and was selected from among 22,000 entrepreneurs as one of the Alibaba Foundation’s Top 20 African Business Heroes. Spotted by the US Secretary of State as an innovative entrepreneur in 2019, she was invited to the Global Entrepreneuship summit in the Netherlands. She received an award for excellence in sustainable development and innovative solutions in India in 2019, and numerous awards and distinctions for innovation in Europe.
She has also participated in the drafting of several reports on national strategy, advises international institutions and is cited as an expert in numerous working groups.
She is an ambassador for the Digital Africa Cluster and chair of the Energy Commission of the CACI in France, and regularly takes part in start-up juries.
