Winnie Mamatsharaga is responsible for Gender Mainstreaming and Transformation in the Department of Electricity and Energy Sector. With over 10 years of experience in women’s empowerment in energy and mining, she developed the Energy Sector Women Empowerment and Gender Equality Policy. Winnie has coordinated youth development initiatives like Learners Focus Week and Youth in Energy Dialogues and has coordinated and represented South African youth in BRICS Youth Energy activities.

As a member and mentor at organisations like GWNET, WeConnect – RESA and LeanIn Equity and Sustainability Global Network, she was recognized as one of the 50 Pan-African Women in Energy Leaders in 2022. Winnie has also managed HR and gender programs at the Department of Health and Correctional Services.

She holds a Master’s Degree in Development Practice from the University of Pretoria, an Honours Degree in Psychology, and various management qualifications, including an Advanced Certificate in Oil & Gas Management. Winnie recently completed a MOOC in Energy Transition towards Low Low-Carbon Economy and is pursuing a Master’s in Energy Leadership at Wits University.
