Damilola is a renewable energy entrepreneur with over 15 years experience and Vice President of the Renewable Energy Association of Nigeria. She is also the Chief Operating Officer and a Cofounder of Ashdam Solar Company Limited (www.ashdamsolar.com) a social enterprise focused on solving energy poverty in Nigeria through providing access to clean energy and also renewable energy capacity building.
Damilola also serves as the Founder and Executive Director of the Girls and Women Technological Empowerment Organisation – GWTEO (www.gwteo.org), a non-profit focused on empowering girls and women to be leaders in the technology industry through capacity building. Damilola has empowered more than 6000 girls and 250 women through her various initiatives such as Green Tech Girls Summer Bootcamp, Solar Queen Technical Training Program, collaborations with BEMORE Empowered Girls Foundation and solar for market women project.
Damilola studied Regulation for Sustainable Development Goal 7 at the Florence school of regulation under the Open Africa Power 2020 (OAP20) and Enel Foundation Scholarship where she obtained the master level certificate of excellence. She is currently on her PhD research in Energy Engineering at Munster Technological University, Ireland with specialty in renewable energy microgrid and demand side management. She has a Masters degree in Physics from the Prestigious University of Ibadan and a Bachelors degree in Physics with Solar Energy from Bowen University, Iwo Nigeria.
Damilola is a GIZ- Nigerian Energy Support Program Certified Trainer on Solar Photovoltaic Installation, Solar Photovoltaic Supervisor and Mini Grid Development. She is also a certified Solar Thermal Trainer.
She is also a Robert Bosch Alumni, an Ashoka Change Maker Xchange fellow, a Sahara Impact Fund Fellow, an Enel Foundation Open Africa Power Fellow, a Social Innovator Program LEAP Africa Fellow, an Academy for Women Entrepreneurs Fellow, a Cherie Blair Foundation – Road to Growth Fellow, a TechWomen Fellow and a Vital Voices Grow Fellow.
Damilola has been named a 2022 Rising Talent by the Women’s Forum for the Economy and Society. She was awarded “Woman Making the Most Impact in the Industry” by the Women in Energy Network and the Renewable Energy Association of Nigeria for the year 2021. She was awarded the Woman in Renewable Energy – Solar Installer of the Year 2021 by the Council for Renewable Energy Nigeria.
She was recognized as an Energy Transition Role Model for the year 2020 by the Global Women’s Network for Energy Transition (GWNET) and she was recognized as an Energy Actor by the Schneider Electric Sponsored program. She was awarded the Energy Professional of the year 2018 by the Nigeria Energy Awards and was also recognized as one of the foremost women in Renewable Energy Nigeria by the Environment Magazine in the year 2017.
Damilola is a mother of three beautiful girls. When Damilola is not busy working to provide communities with affordable and quality renewable energy solutions, she’s engaged in supporting women in STEM.
“Women Energize Women” #womenenergize is a communication initiative of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) and is implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) within the scope of BMWK’s global project Bilateral Climate and Energy Partnerships and Dialogues. From 2021 to 2023 the German Renewable Energy Federation (BEE) co-implemented the initiative and is currently responsible for digital communications of the campaign.
